The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of hot spring water on experimentally-induced diabetes mellitus. For this purpose, totally 50 Albino mice of the same daily age were used. Study group animals were given hot spring water, while control group animals received normal tap water. Clinical, hematological, blood biochemical and histopathological examinations were performed in all animals following diabetes mellitus formation compared to the control mice. Also, body weight gain, total leukocyte, neutrophil and monocyte count, glucose, AST and ALT were measured on Day 1, 7, 14 and 21 following the treatment period. At the end of the study, ALP, total cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL levels significantly (p <0.05) decreased, while erythrocyte count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, insulin, total protein, albumin and HDL levels significantly increased (p <0.05) in the study group animals. Findings of the healing in SG were also confirmed histopathologically. Results of the present study indicated that Süreyya I hot spring waterwas very successful in the treatment of diabetes mellitus.
